Christmas Parcels for individuals and families seeking asylum
'A friend told me about the Christmas deliveries to people seeking asylum in Norwich, and I was attracted by how the opportunity was open to people of any or no faith. I was aware that my own children have a lot of possessions and that Christmas has become about material things, so I wanted to give them the chance to give back.
Packing and delivering the bags had a really positive impact on my son. One of our deliveries was to a young guy and his brother who was the same age as my son and it was helpful for my son to see how they lived, as well as the hope we can bring to others. My husband’s family came to England from China before he was born and were helped by the church when they were struggling, so it was powerful for both him and the family we visited to share their stories.
We are definitely going to help again with both the bag packing and deliveries. Christmas gets so busy, and it is important for us to stop and give back - to spread generosity and kindness, and bring hope and faith to people.
What I learnt from the experience was that STN Trust gives you the opportunity to give of your time, but equally gives a lot back to you too. Following this project I have also got involved with fundraising for the Trust and even attended Alpha.'
